Iraqi and Syrian parliament speakers have discussed activating the joint parliamentary work as well as cooperation to boost bilateral ties.
The meeting between Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi and his Syrian counterpart Hammoudeh Sabbagh took place on the sidelines of the 29th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) held in Amman on Saturday.
During the meeting, Halbousi highlighted the strong historic relations between both countries and peoples. He also expressed appreciation toward Syria’s stance for hosting the Iraqi IDPs during the war against ISIS.
Moreover, Halbousi called for unifying the efforts towards several issues including the battle against terrorism.
For his part, Sabbagh said both Syria and Iraq face a common enemy, which is terrorism, adding that his country will soon declare victory against ISIS.
