Several Iranian diplomats and officials threatened submitting their resignations in solidarity with Foreign Minister Mohamed Javad Zarif, who stepped down on Monday.
In a report on Tuesday, Fars news agency said several senior officials from the ministry are determined to submit collective resignations, hours after Zarif declared his resignation.
In response to the officials’ threat, Zarif commented saying “All brothers and sisters in the Foreign Ministry and its representatives should resume their work and step back from this,” Fars reported.
In related news, Chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iranian Parliament, Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, said the committee will hold an urgent session to tackle Zarif’s resignation. He also indicated conflicts between Zarif and several officials, according to Tasnim news agency.
