The Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc issued a strongly
worded statement censuring the parties that have played down the importance of
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani's visit to Baghdad.
The KDP bloc's spokesperson censured some parties for undermining the visit, saying that these parties "have framed [the visit] in a narrow partisan framework as a clear reflection of their narrow and malicious vision."
Iraq's Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi hosted Barzani in Baghdad on Thursday for the first time since the former took post in October last year.
During the meeting, Barzani thanked his counterpart “for his efforts towards improving relations” between the federal and Kurdistan governments, according to a statement issued by the KRG.
Barzani said that the KRG is ready to continue talks and resolve their problems.
This “spirit of cooperation” between the federal and regional government is important for the program of Abd al-Mahdi's government, his office stated in its own readout.
