MPs urge Abdul Mahdi to investigate Mashzoub's murder

The Iraqi parliament's human rights committee called on Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi to form a special security committee to undertake a thorough and quick professional investigation into the assassination of Alaa Mashzoub and uncover the murderers.

The committee should remain held to investigate such cases and supervise other cases where necessary, the parliament's committee said.

A security source revealed late on Saturday that masked gunmen shot down Iraqi author Alaa Mashzoub Khafaji in front of his house in Karbala in central Iraq.

Mashzoub used to voice objection and concerns against Shiite parties, not to mention criticizing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the deteriorating status of Karbala.
