Iranian opponent websites have reported that Touraj Esmaeeli, the prominent adviser in the cyber and missile department of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, escaped to one of the western embassies with crucial documents in his possession.
A report by Iran's English-language Crime Research Center website quoted that a source close to the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Iranian regime, Ali Shamkhani as saying that Esmaeeli succeeded in fleeing the country for Turkey, where he was hiding out at Istanbul’s Avant Garde Taksim Hotel.
Attempts by the Iranian intelligence failed to arrest him, the report said adding that the documents in his possession were about the Iranian missile programs and cyber operations.
“Beginning April 2018, three of the high ranking directors of National Security in Iran were arrested and charged with spying. Alireza, Zarifian, the director of the center for communication and information of the General Secretariat of National Security, Admiral Eessaa Golverdiand Ghafoor Dorgazi, both of whom were deputies in the Operations Department to National Security, remain in custody,” the report said.
The news, which only circulated on the opposition websites, were not reported by any of the Iranian local media channels. No government sources commented on it.
