Spokesperson of the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) Sabah al-Noman has stressed the only the government has the right to determine the necessity of the existence of U.S. troops.

Al-Noman said in a statement late on Sunday that Iraq is still in need for the U.S. logistic support that could be sometimes represented in exchanging intelligence information.

He also pointed out that the United States provided the necessary training to members of the CTS to aid them in their fight against ISIS.

“The CTS is currently dealing with 68 countries to exchange intelligence information and training,” Al-Noman said. “Despite the elimination of ISIS, however, there are sleeper terrorist cells in Iraq.”

He further clarified that the deployment of CTS forces across Iraq is to accelerate containing and encountering any potential terrorist attacks.
