Iraqi political thinker urges dissolving Peshmerga, IMIS

Political thinker Ayad Jamal al-Din said that Iraq will never become a unified state unless the Peshmerga and pro-Iran IMIS are dissolved, wondering about the stance of the IMIS in case Iraq is engaged in a war with Iran in the future.

"Whoever wants to volunteer in the army must enter as an individual and not as a group or a militia," Jamal al-Din stated.

Under former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Iran and Iraq had waged an almost decade-long war starting in 1980. An estimated 500,000 Iraqi and Iranian soldiers died in the long war between the two countries, in addition to a smaller number of civilians.
