Saairun says still rejects nomination of Fayyad to Interior Ministry

Raed Fahmy
MP Raed Fahmi, representing Saairun Alliance, has expressed sticking to the stance refusing the appointment of Falih al-Fayyad to the post of Interior Minister, saying Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi informed the blocs not to suggest any candidate without consensus.

“The Saairun Alliance still rejects the appointment of Falih al-Fayyad to the post of interior minister, in accordance with the previous agreement with political blocs not to accept any figure who was previously in office,” Fahmy said.

Abdul-Mahdi, according to Fahmy, “is unready to suggest names for the remaining ministries.”

Four ministries, namely interior, defense, justice and education, are still without ministers, as the parliament failed to select the candidates due to the conflicts among the blocs.

The formation of a full government of 22 ministers has been hindered due to intensifying disagreements between the rival Islah and Bina blocs, led by Moqtada al-Sadr and Hadi al-Amiri.
