Iraq, Canada mull fostering bilateral ties, regional developments

Iraqi President Barham Salih tackled on Sunday with Julie Payette Governor General of Canada, the development of bilateral ties in order to achieve joint interests.

A statement by Salih’s office said he received Payette at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad. Salih expressed being keen on “developing the ties with the world countries to achieve common interests and prosperity.” He indicated the importance of cooperation with Canada to reconstruct the country.

The statement also highlighted “necessity of partnering with Canadian companies and businessmen to invest in Iraq and take advantage of their experience in agricultural and industrial fields and scientific and cultural exchange. Salih praised Canada for its role within the international coalition fighting against terrorism.

Meanwhile, Payette, stressed her country’s support toward Iraqi people to achieve stability and reconstruct its cities, especially the liberated ones. She expressed her government’s readiness for investment and contribution in the renaissance of Iraq, especially in fields of energy, oil, agriculture and industry.
