Parl't aims to reduce budget deficit, develop provinces: Halbousi

Halbousi and parliament's finance committee
Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi discussed on Saturday with members of parliament’s finance committee the financial allocations for the development of the provinces and investment projects.

"The meeting reviewed the needs of the provinces liberated from ISIS and provinces that suffer from lack of services, as well as the needs of the ministries of defense, education, health and water resources in the federal budget," a statement from Halbousi’s office read.

The statement added that the meeting dealt with finding financial cover for building schools and paying the wages of lecturers.

The meeting also discussed "ways to reduce the deficit in the federal budget for 2019 and reduce the volume of external loans so as not to affect the nature of the movement of investment and reconstruction, as well as to create employment opportunities for young people."

For his part, Halbousi said there is a need to end the file of transferring funds within the Ministry of Finance in a manner commensurate with the needs of the federal government.

He added that the parliament is “continuing to resolve the problems in some paragraphs of the draft budget and its provisions in order to accelerate its adoption and meet the aspirations of the Iraqi citizens."
