Judiciary Council Chief, UN official meet on ISIS crimes

Fa’iq Zidan, head of the Supreme Judicial Council, received on Thursday Ahmed Khan, the special adviser to the chief of international investigations team on ISIS crimes, and the accompanying delegation.

A statement by the media office of the council said “the two sides mulled the stages that the team has been through and the steps that will be taken during the coming phase regarding the evidence on ISIS crimes.”

In August, A U.N. investigative team started working on collecting and preserving evidence of acts by ISIS in Iraq that may be war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide, nearly a year after the Security Council created it.

U.N. experts had warned in June 2016 that Islamic State was committing genocide against the Yazidis in Syria and Iraq to destroy the minority religious community through killings, sexual slavery and other crimes.
