US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Riyadh late Sunday in the last leg of his 8-day tour in the Middle East.
The US top diplomat is set to meet with Saudi Arabia’s leadership to discuss several regional issues, Alarabiya reported.
Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Washington Prince Khalid bin Salman and Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir were at the airport to receive Pompeo.
Pompeo's jet landed in Riyadh coming from Doha, where he addressed the Arab blockade on Qatar saying that it "has dragged on too long," urging Gulf states, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain to end the rift and go back to negotiation table.
Pompeo later told reporters that he had also raised the rift with officials in Bahrain, Egypt and the UAE. "It's ... not at all clear that the rift is any closer to being resolved today than it was yesterday and I regret that," he said.
