Iraq FM affirms keenness to develop relations with NATO

Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Hakim on Sunday affirmed Iraq's keenness to keep and develop relations with NATO, during his meeting with John Manza, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Operations.

During the meeting of Hakim and Manza, they reviewed the work of the mission in Iraq and level of concerned parties' cooperation with the mission, a statement by Hakim's office said.

Hakim stressed Iraq's interest in relations with NATO and the need to develop these relations.

He also welcomed the recent training mission in Iraq, expressing Iraq's readiness to provide the necessary facilities for this mission for its role in raising the proficiency level of Iraqi forces, the statement read.

Hakim praised "the important and vital role played by NATO in support of Iraq in facing terrorism during the last period with the US-led international coalition [fighting ISIS]"

For his part, Manza said he hopes that Iraq achieve further development and prosperity in the security and military fields. He also affirmed NATO's full support to Iraq and its government to ensure the country's unity, security, sovereignty and democratic developments.
