Shame on you, Rep. Tlaib!

“I will always speak truth to power. #unapologeticallyMe”

I will always speak truth to power. #unapologeticallyMe

This is what US Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan tweeted in defense of herself following widespread criticism of her inappropriate remarks on January 3, in which she threatened to impeach President Donald Trump, referring to him as a “motherf****r”. This was not speaking truth to power; this was a petty, ugly attack.

When asked by media whether she would apologize for her comments, she refused, only apologizing for any “distraction” she may have caused and adding, “I will never apologize for being me.”

When asked by reporters about Tlaib referring to him as an expletive, Trump responded, “I thought her comments were disgraceful. This is a person that I don’t know. I assume she’s new. I think she dishonored herself and I think she’s dishonored her family. Using language like that in front of her son and whoever else was there, I thought that was a disgrace and a dishonor to her and to her family. I thought it was highly disrespectful to the United States of America.”

Certainly, Tlaib’s words were shameful. She hasn’t just dishonored her family, but also Arabs, Muslims, and her constituents. Even many fellow Democrats have distanced themselves from her comments.

As a Palestinian-American and one of the first and only Muslims to serve in Congress and be on the national scene in the US, which Tlaib politicizes, she is not representing her people well. At a time when many Americans have a negative perception of Arabs and Muslims, the newly elected congresswoman has so far done nothing to create a positive image of those who share her heritage, instead adding fuel to flames with her appearance as playground bully.

While Tlaib claims to be focused on her constituents in Michigan, where corruption is rife and water is polluted, she seems to be much more focused on picking verbal fights in Washington instead of taking any positive action.

This shouldn't be surprising though, as Tlaib is friends with Muslim-American activist Linda Sarsour, who has connections with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Maybe the Michigan water has gotten to her, or maybe she’s just trying to make a name for herself and be in the spotlight, but Tlaib’s expletive comments are nothing but negative for Arabs, Muslims and her constituents.

Perhaps Tlaib should study her religion more and take note of how Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) made social and political changes. He didn’t do it by standing at the Kaaba in Mecca and yelling curse words at the disbelievers of Quraysh who opposed him; he did so by taking positive action with a calm demeanor characterized by sincere concern and mercy for all, including for those who attacked him.

Shame on you, Rep. Tlaib!

Has the Muslim Brotherhood infiltrated US Congress?

A tweet circulated the social media raised a serious question about the extent of Muslim Brotherhood influence inside the US congress. A Palestinian-American activist shared a suspicious post questions the affiliations of the two Muslim congresswomen (Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib), where she posted her picture with the two congresswomen, praising the Muslim Brotherhood's existing at the Congress.
