Iraq’s football team beat Vietnam 3-2 on Tuesday in the
Asian Cup, which is being held in Abu Dhabi.
Iraqi player Ali Adnan was able to win the match for his team with a last-minute free-kick.
Vietnam had taken the lead in the first half, as the Iraqi team was not playing well, according to Srecko Katanec, Iraq’s coach. "The first half was horrible," he said.
However, in the second half, Humam Tariq was able to even the score for Iraq, and then a foul on the part of Vietnam allowed Adnan to make the score 3-2, giving the Lions of Mesopotamia the win.
Iraq last won the Asian Cup in 2007.
The deteriorated security situation in Iraq in recent years has made it difficult for the national team to properly prepare for tournaments, negatively affecting their ability to win titles for Iraq.
