PUK stresses its right in occupying Defense Ministry

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) asserted Saturday its stickiness to the right in taking over the defense ministry in the federal government.

“The defense portfolio should be granted for Kurdish blocs, especially the PUK,” MP of PUK at the Iraqi parliament Hassan Ali stated on Saturday, ruling out voting on the unoccupied ministerial posts.

“The Baghdad government could resort to managing the ministries of defense and interior through acting ministers,” he added.

Dispute had erupted between Iraqi political blocs over the security ministries in the government of Adil Abdul Mahdi, with several clashes between Reform and Binna’a alliances over the post of interior minister, which Binna’a insists to nominate Faleh al-Fayadh for.
