President Barham Salih said on Thursday that the consolidation of Iraqi-Turkish
relations will contribute to achieving peace and stability in the region.
At his meeting with Turkish Parliament Speaker Binali Yildirim during his official visit to Turkey, Salih invited the countries of the region to serious and transparent dialogue to avoid more crises and tension.
Salih stressed the importance of strengthening relations between Iraq and Turkey, and the need for joint coordination to expand cooperation between them in all fields.
Yildirim reiterated his country's determination to "further develop relations between the two sides." He also affirmed Turkey's support to Iraq and expressed his country's keenness to enhance cooperation and coordination at various levels.
Salih arrived earlier in Ankara, where he met his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Salih said in a joint press conference with Erdogan that Iraq and Turkey need a comprehensive agreement to end the water issue, stressing the importance of the Turkish role in the reconstruction process in Iraq.
"We are in Turkey in order to reach solutions to the outstanding issues," Salih said, adding that "Iraq and Turkey need a comprehensive agreement that includes ending the water issue."
