The Iraqi security forces intensified their operations to eradicate the remnants of the ISIS terrorist group in the Iraqi cities, where they carried out a crackdown on the group’s hideouts in Mosul and Diyala.

The intelligence directorate announced on Wednesday the arrest of an ISIS leader, who is in charge of following up the movement of security forces of the group in Mosul, according to al-Summaria.

The military intelligence also announced dismantling an ISIS-affiliate terrorist cell in southern Mosul, which was plotting to attack key figures in Iraq.

All the cell members were arrested.

The terrorist group has controlled the governorate of Nineveh and its capital Mosul in 2014 but Iraqi security forces managed to liberate the city after bloody battles in 2017.

On the other hand, a military operation was launched Wednesday to hunt down ISIS cells in northeastern Diyala.

The operation aims at bringing security and stability along with tracking ISIS elements in the governorate, an Iraqi security source said.

Iraq has announced that it will raise the security alert to face any imminent attack by ISIS, fearing any ISIS infiltration from Syria, in the wake of the US decision to pull out forces from the war-torn country.
