A parliamentary committee has revealed intentions to withdraw any acquired citizenships from senior officials in the government.
In Wednesday remarks, Rami al-Sekeeni, member of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, indicated “intentions within the parliament’s foreign affairs committee to drop the acquired nationalities off all senior officials.”
He denounced the fact that “some officials are holding tight to other nationalities without respecting the Iraqi nationality.”
The committee, according to Sekeeni, “will work on dropping the acquired citizenships off Iraqi senior politicians and officials, especially that everyone is equal.” He noted that the issue will be proposed soon after the committee’s meeting during the coming sessions.
Last month, the parliament’s legal committee expressed intentions to pass the dual nationalities draft law, saying that previous political reasons hindered passing it.
