Parliament inclined to hold secret vote in next session: MP

Faleh al-Fayyad, a leading member of the pro-Iran bloc, the Building coalition

Al-Binna’a Coalition MP Hussein al-Yassari revealed that Iraq’s parliament is inclined to hold a secret vote in its next session on January 8, 2019.

In the event that Faleh al-Fayadh does not obtain enough votes for the post of interior minister, Yassari said that he may then be replaced with a candidate from among Iraq’s competent security leaders.

After the cabinet has failed to be complete in the voting sessions due to the lack of quorum, Al-Binna’a Coalition aims to conduct a secret vote on Fayadh heading the Interior Ministry, allowing everyone freedom of choice and preventing the process of breaking quorum, according to Yassari.

He added that if Fayadh does not get enough votes, then Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi may choose a competent security leader, whether active or retired, for the post of interior minister.
