of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Masoud Barzani on Thursday warned the
international community against the return of terrorism in Iraq in a new form
if the reasons for its emergence are not eliminated.
During his meeting on Thursday with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the new head of the UN's mission in Iraq, Barzani called for an ideological, social and economic war against terrorism, according to a statement issued by Barzani's official website.
During the meeting, Barzani told Hennis-Plasschaert and her delegation that although ISIS was defeated militarily in Iraq, the reasons for its emergence were not eliminated, the statement read.
The meeting also shed light on the relations between the Kurdistan region and Baghdad, including Barzani's visit in November to the Iraqi capital and his announcement of support to Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi, according to the statement.
The visit of the new UNAMI chief comes after the end of the mission of former UN Special Representative for Iraq Jan Kubis, who served for four years.
