Kurdish MPs object to region’s share in 2019 budget

Iraqi parliament
The Kurdish representatives at the Iraqi parliament expressed their objection to the proposed draft bill of 2019 FY, affirming that the government has recoiled its promise to raise it to 14 percent.

“Sulaymaniyah representatives have reservations on the proposed budget bill; it doesn’t meet our Iraqi people’s aspirations,” MP Ahmed Rashid stated in a joint press conference with other Kurdish MPs on Thursday, asserting that the budget in general doesn’t address the needs of the liberated governorates from ISIS, especially Basra.

The lawmakers also objected to not allocating enough budget for Peshmerga fighters, despite all their sacrifices in war against ISIS.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) was looking forward to raise their share in the 2019 budget, from 12 percent to 14 percent.
