After 28 years, Kevin is ‘Home Alone' again

The 1990s holiday classic Home Alone is back again this Christmas. Sort of. The film's star Macaulay Culkin, now 38, stars in a new Google ad as his original character, 28 years on.

While in the original, Kevin McCallister spent his holiday alone defending his home against two burglars, this year he has some company: Google Assistant.

The ad has proven a success, on YouTube alone, the video received about 5 million views in less than 12 hours.

Kevin has clearly aged, jumping on the bed now comes with back pain.

In the ad, Kevin wakes up alone once again, and checks in with Google about what he has planned for his day. "You have the house to yourself," the virtual assistant replies. “Oh yeah,” said the now 38-year-old Culkin. The ad intertwines original movie clips with recreated scenes.

The actor is then seen recreating some familiar scenes from the famed film, including Kevin watching “Angels with Filthy Souls” on television, the execution of Operation Kevin, and the screaming aftershave scene.

All done with the addition of the Google voice assistant in Kevin’s life, of course.

The Wet Bandits, Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci, even make a cameo in the one-minute ad — albeit in footage from Home Alone — as grown-up Kevin eats his mac and cheese while Google Home helps pull the strings to move the “house guests” in front of the window.

Needless to say, the Internet reacted to the nostalgic ad with much positivity.
