The House of Representatives failed [for the third time] to resume voting on the remaining ministerial portfolios on Tuesday, due to the withdrawal of Reform and Reconstruction Alliance, led by Saairun Alliance, from the session and boycotting the vote.
Saairun MP Gamal Fakher said earlier Tuesday that his alliance has decided to boycott the session, in objection to the nominees of Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi for the interior and defense ministries.
The House of Representatives was set vote on the eight remaining ministerial portfolios at Tuesday’s session, to announce the final lineup of the government after weeks of negotiations between political blocs.
Former IMIS commander Faleh al-Fayadh, Abdul Mahdi's choice for the interior post, is viewed as extremely controversial due to his crimes and his connections to the Iranian regime. While Iranian-backed political blocs are pushing for Fayadh's appointment, he has been rejected by popular Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and his Saairun Alliance.
