U.S. Embassy in Baghdad warns nationals to use caution during IZ open hours

With the limited opening of the International Zone (IZ) in Baghdad, the U.S. Embassy has initiated security protocols similar to those used throughout Baghdad during the IZ’s open hours.

The embassy called upon U.S. citizens to keep a low profile, be aware of their surroundings, and use caution while transiting the International Zone.

Last week, the U.S. Embassy also warned American nationals against visiting Iraq on the first anniversary of the military defeat of the ISIS terrorist group.

In a statement, the embassy said U.S. citizens currently in Iraq to stay indoors and take shelter from falling projectiles.

Last year, Iraqi officials declared that ISIS's military presence in the country had been eliminated following a three-year conflict with the army backed by the U.S.-led coalition.
