US President Donald Trump signed a law to honor late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The award comes after the US Congress passed the bill last summer, which gives Sadat the Gold Congress medal after his death in recognition of his achievements and contributions to peace in the Middle East, according to Al Hurra.

The centenary of the birth of the late Egyptian president comes on December 25.

In 1978, Sadat won the Nobel Peace Prize, jointly with former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, after reaching a peace agreement between the two countries in the same year, known as the Camp David Accords.

Anwar Sadat (1918-1981) was the third president of the Arab Republic of Egypt and led Egypt to its first military victory against Israel in the war that began on October 6, 1973. Eight years later on October 6, 1981, Sadat was assassinated during a military parade celebrating the 1973 victory.
