Haidary, an official of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said that 8.27 infants die per every 1,000 infants born in Iran due to poverty.
This means that 10,000 children die every year out of 1.4 million children
In an interview with IRNA, Haidari said the highest mortality rates were found in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Kermanshah and Kerman due to low levels of health education, economic poverty and poor care during pregnancy.
Reports from Iran confirm that poverty is rampant. Opposition People's Mujahedin of Iran said that 60 percent of citizens are living below the poverty line.
The report, which was published by the organization on Saturday, was based on figures published by economic expert Hossein Raghfar, who is close to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
