Former Kurdistan Region
President and current leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani received on Sunday the British ambassador to
Iraq Jon Wilks.
During the meeting, Wilks stressed on his country's keenness to strengthen relations with the Kurdistan Region, as well as to assist the Peshmerga Ministry and to reorganize it, according to a statement issued by Barzani's official website.
The meeting also discussed the political situation in Iraq and the region, the steps to form a new government in Iraq, and the challenges facing the political process, according to the statement.
Wilks described Barzani's recent visit to Baghdad as "important and effective," the statement added.
The meeting also affirmed that the election of the Iraqi Parliament and the formation of the new Iraqi government, has created the chance to have a new atmosphere to strengthen relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and to solve the problems, the statement read.
Concerning the situation in Kirkuk, they stressed the need for the participation of all components to manage the city.
