40 journalists killed in Iraq in 3 years: Press Association

At least forty journalists were killed and 76 others were wounded in Iraq between 2015 and 2017, the Press Freedom Advocacy Association in Iraq revealed on Sunday.

In a report released on Sunday, the association stated that 40 journalists have been killed in the past three years and 76 others were wounded, most of whom died during the military operations to liberate the territories occupied by ISIS in 2014.

Moreover, 430 violations were recorded against the freedom of the press in Iraq, most of which were by government and security bodies, the association mentioned in its report, without specifying the nature of such violations.

Most of the injuries happened in 2017; the year that witnessed bitter battles between Iraqi army and ISIS in Mosul, the report added.
