Iraq's Independent High
Electoral Commission (IHEC) confirmed that holding provincial council elections
on time has become impossible.
Commissioner board member Riyad al-Badran said that the preliminary date for provincial council elections was set to be on December 22, but it seems currently impossible to do so.
"We are coming to discuss this topic, which was discussed initially with the prime minister and the parliament's legal committee," Badran stated, noting that the parliament is the only body that has the right to legally decide the date of the upcoming elections in coordination with the prime minister and the Electoral Commission.
