Leaders of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has nominated Nechirvan Barzani to Iraqi Kurdistan Region presidency and Masrour Barzani for the post of Prime Minister of Kurdistan, KDP official told the press on Monday.
The leadership of the KDP is meeting in Erbil where party leader Massoud Barzani may appoint a prime minister and ask him to form a new government two months after the region’s parliamentary elections.
Tatar said that all members of the leadership council have been called to the meeting. Although it is not yet clear if Barzani will ask his nephew the current prime minister Nechirvan Barzani or his son Masrour Barzani to form a government.
Masrour Barzani is the head of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council for the KDP-controlled areas of Kurdistan. The clan-based KDP party won 45 seats in the September elections.
