Kurdish parties conflict over Ministry of Justice

The Kurdish parties arguing over the post of the Minister of Justice, as the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) strongly objects to granting the post to a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) nominee, MP of Al-Fatah Ahmed Kanani revealed on Saturday. 

 

“The KDP opposed the nomination of PUK's Khalid Shawani for the ministry of justice,” Kanani said, adding that political blocs have recommended agreeing on consensus candidates for the ministries of immigration and Justice without, to resolve the Kurdish dispute.

 

The special representative of the UN Secretary General for Iraq, Jan Kubis, stressed on Saturday the importance to accelerate the formation of the cabinet, calling on political powers to support the cabinet headed by the PM Adil Abdul Mahdi.

In a press conference, Kubis said: “The political powers bear the responsibility of supporting the government," adding: “There is no room for a political conflict.”
