Basra is Iraq's economic capital: Abdul Mahdi

Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi praised the city of Basra and its people for what they presented to the country, saying that Basra has always the economic capital of Iraq, according to official statement released Wednesday.

 

During Abdul Mahdi's meeting with the MPs representing Basra in the House of Representatives, he said that the government alongside legislative authorities will do their best to provide the city with all its needs to become the economic capital again.


Abdul Mahdi also highlighted the importance of rooting a healthy investment environment through executive and legislative procedures, adding that such environment is essential for the reconstruction process, which can create more prosperous life for the residents.

 

The prime minister referred to the rage of citizens shown in the continued protest, affirming that all citizens have the right to express their opinion and objection, and the government should respect this opinion, as long as it's a peaceful protest.
