Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi held on Wednesday a meeting with representatives of Basra province to discuss the situation in the war-torn city.
The delegation discussed with the PM increasing the financial allocations for
the province in 2019 budget, a parliamentary source told The Baghdad Post.
The meeting included Basra governor, Head of the provincial council and the police operations commander, who complained about the injustice in distributing the allocations for Basra, given that it was severely affected by the war against ISIS.
Some Basra officials hinted that they might establish an
independent provincial council in case their needs are not met, the source added.
Basra is considered one of the most rich provinces in Iraq, however the government is not giving its local residents enough
attention or services.
