Update: 21 Iraqis killed by deadly flood

At least 21 people were killed after a heavy rainfall caused flood in central and southern provinces of Iraq, said the country’s health ministry.

Another 180 were wounded, ministry spokesperson Saif Badr said in a statement.

The district of Shargat in Salahaddin province was the most affected region in the country with also hundreds of families displaced after their properties were damaged.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi has already ordered the formation of an emergency unit to respond to the disaster and provide assistance to the affected people.
