Deadly 6.3 magnitude quake kills two in Kurdistan


At least two people were killed and hundreds more were injured in the earthquake which hit the border areas of Kurdistan Region and the Kurdish provinces of Iran on Sunday.

Updates from the health department in the Kurdistan Region confirmed that two people were killed in Kalar district.


According to officials, 729 people were wounded in the Iranian Kurdistan, while hundreds of civilian properties were damaged with public services reportedly cut in the mountainous areas.

The quake was measured at 6.3 on Richter scale near the Iran-Iraq border.

According to Tehran’s Institute of Geophysics, the quake struck 17 km west of the city of Sarpol-e-Zahab, 18 km from Qasr-e Shirin and 33 km from the city of Gilan-e-Gharb in Kermanshah province.
