Iraqi President Barham Salih and Palestinian Foreign Minister Reyadh Maliki discussed the latest developments related to the Palestinian issue and the political and security situation in the region in Rome Friday.
The meeting came on the sidelines of a high-level international conference dubbed "Rome MED - Mediterranean Dialogues" in Italy.
During their meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of promoting deeply-rooted ties between the two countries, the Iraqi presidency said in a statement.
From his side, Maliki congratulated Salih on assuming his new post and the line-up of the new Iraqi government.
On the other hand, Salih thanked the Palestinian minister, wishing progress for the Palestinian people in their quest to retain their full rights.
