PM pledges to launch anti-corruption campaign in two weeks

Adil Abdel Mahdi
Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced on Wednesday intentions to present a plan to fight widespread corruption in Iraq within two weeks.

News outlets quoted Mahdi at a press conference following a cabinet meeting as he said his government will not allow any unqualified person to assume any ministerial portfolio in the new lineup.

Mahdi made the comments after Iraqi Shia cleric Muqtada al Sadr posted a tweet about corruption in the appointment of ministers in the new cabinet.

The Prime Minister also commended the tour that President Barham Saleh recently paid to several neighboring and regional countries.

“The recent regional tour paid by President Barham Saleh was successful and tackled several security and economic files of great concern to Iraq,” he said.

On Monday, Saleh wrapped up a regional tour, which took him to several countries, including Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
