Iraqi President Barham Salih received an official invitation from his Russian counterpart
Vladimir Putin to visit Russia. The invitation was conveyed by Putin's
special envoy to the Middle East and North Africa Mikhail Bogdanov.
During
his meeting with the Russian envoy, Salih stressed the necessity of cooperation
between Russia and Iraq in various fields, especially in the field of counter-terrorism.
Salih praised Russia's good relations with
various actors in the region. He also stressed the need to develop
Russian-Iraqi relations for the benefit of the two countries and for historical
and international considerations.
Meanwhile, the
Russian envoy stressed the importance of strategic partnership with the Iraqi
government.
Bogdanov
also conveyed an official invitation to Salih from Putin to visit Russia within
the framework of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the
two states.
