Iraq’s trade minister affirmed the strong relations Iraq has with Jordan during a meeting with Jordan’s minister of industry, trade and supply in Baghdad, stressing the importance of overcoming obstacles to increasing the exchange of trade between the two countries.

"Trade Minister Mohammed Hashim al-Aani discussed with Jordanian Minister of Industry Tariq al-Hammouri in Baghdad ways to overcome the obstacles to increasing trade exchange between the two countries,” Iraq’s Ministry of Trade said in a statement.

Al-Aani stressed that "the relations with the Jordanian side have been strong for many years and there is cooperation in all fields," adding that the opening of Trebil port contributed to the revival of this exchange.

For his part, Hammouri said that he had "distinguished discussions with the minister of trade on several topics, including the volume of trade between the two countries and ways to serve the interests of Iraqi businessmen working in Jordan."

"We see prosperity on both sides in the private sector and we are working to develop it," he said, calling for "a permanent commercial center for his country at the Baghdad International Fair to display products and commodities of Jordanian companies and to sign bilateral agreements and establish partnerships with the Iraqi private sector.”

Hammouri also met with other Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Fuad Hussein.
