Iraq’s president, Barham Salih, stressed on Sunday that Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States are united against terrorism and extremism.
Salih said that talks with the United States were continuing and his country's special conditions regarding sanctions on Iran should be taken into consideration.
"We do not want Iraq to be burdened with the U.S. sanctions on Iran," Salih told reporters in Kuwait.
In his first official visit since his election to Iraq’s presidency, Barham Salih arrived in Kuwait on Sunday as he embarked on a tour to a number of neighboring countries.
A statement by the Iraqi presidency said Salih will arrive in Kuwait upon an invitation by Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the emir of Kuwait.
The statement further added that Salih’s tour, which includes the UAE, aims at amending and improving relations with the Arab and Gulf region.
