Najaf Governor Louay al-Yasiri received on Tuesday Iran's First Vice President, Eshaq Jahangiri and his accompanied delegation in Al Najaf International Airport.
Al-Yasiri presented an explanation of the security plans set ahead the annual Arbaeen commemoration and the aid presented by Najafi people, the media office of the governor stated.
"The local government, in coordination with the federal government, as well as all governmental departments and institutions are mobilized to embrace these large masses and provide them with all the necessary facilities to perform the pilgrimage smoothly and safely," he said.
Iraq's Prime Minister Adil Abdel Mahdi visited Iraqi city of Karbala on Monday to follow up on the security plans set ahead the annual Arbaeen commemoration.
Millions of Shiite Muslims from around the world are making their way this week to their sect’s holy shrines in Karbala.
