Activists on social media criticized
that Basra did not receive any ministerial portfolio within the government of
Adil Abdul Mahdi, threatening of launching new protests.
The activists also started a hashtag "Beware of Basra," which was used during the recent demonstrations calling for improvement of services and not to marginalize the province. In addition, it called for eliminating unemployment and granting the province its share of ministries and governmental positions.
The Iraqi parliament voted Wednesday on 14 ministers of the cabinet presented by Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi. However, no ministerial portfolio was granted for any figure from Basra.
