The director general of the research and training office at
the Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters, Hamid Reza Sarrami, revealed that 35
percent of the drugs produced in Afghanistan pass through Iran.
In a press statement, Sarrami said Iran has 800,000 to 2 million drug addicts between the ages of 15 and 64.
He stated that there are now about 850,000 Iranian addicts under the umbrella of the care and health services in the country, adding that drugs have caused the deaths of many in Iran in the recent period.
Opium is considered the most addictive drug among Iranian addicts by 56.3 percent. There are 156,000 addicted women in Iran.
