An Iraqi delegation led by first deputy speaker of parliament Hassan Kareem al-Kaabi is set to participate in the 139th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva.
"A delegation from the Council of Representatives, headed by first deputy speaker Hassan Kareem al-Kaabi, has arrived in Geneva, Switzerland to participate in the activities and work of the 139th Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union," read a statement by the Information Office of the Council of Representatives.
The Iraqi delegation will attend the meetings of the Committees on Peace and Security, Sustainable Development and Trade, Democracy and Human Rights, United Nations Affairs, the Women and Youth Forum and the Specialized Committees. They will also discuss the emergency item on addressing the problem of UNRWA's budget deficit and the continuation of the provision of humanitarian services to Palestine refugees.
Kaabi is due to deliver a speech during the meeting on behalf of the Iraqi delegation and plans to review the recent political developments in the country, emphasize the importance of deepening cooperation with the legislatures of other countries, and seek aid to rebuild the areas of Iraq liberated from Islamic State control.
