Abdul Mahdi to meet Barzani on Kurdish positions on next gov

Newly elected Prime Minister, Adil Abdul Mahdi, is scheduled to meet the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Masoud Barzani to discuss the Kurdish postitions in the new formed government before announcing it publicly.

The MP for Nineveh Sherwan Jamal Agha Aldubardani stated on Monday that the meeting’s place is not determined yet. “According to this meeting, the Democratic Party will announce his participation on the next government or not,” he said.


Aldubardani said that the party’s message is clear that the new government should apply the national partnership, get consensus on of decisions issued in the Iraqi parliament, and take into account the balance in state institutions.


The MP of the KDP, Pierre Taher, said that his party strongly supports the newly-appointed Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, in the formation of the next government.

Taher said in a press statement on Sunday that his party is focusing on the government program, stressing that the KDP is strongly supporting Abdul Mahdi, and will not stand against the formation of the government.

He added that his party demands the implementation of the Constitution and the empowerment of constitutional institutions, noting that they have not demanded any ministerial positions in the new government.

Iraq's new president selected Abdul Mahdi to lead the government. Abdul Mahdi have only 30 days to form his new government.
