Iraq’s newly-elected parliamentary speaker, Mohamed al-Halbousi, received U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Seelman in his office on Sunday.
On behalf of U.S. President Donald Trump, Sullivan congratulated Halbousi on his election as Iraq’s parliamentary speaker, stressing his country’s support to Iraq in all fields, Halbousi’s media office stated in a press statement.
Halbusi also affirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries within the strategic framework, as well as cooperation in the economic and investment fields, hailing the U.S. efforts, including the U.S.-led anti-ISIS international coalition, in supporting Iraq in its war against terrorism.
Al-Halbusi also asserted the need to work to achieve stability of the region.
