Iraq’s outgoing Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi met with
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and discussed the effects of dams
that Turkey is building on the Tigris River to the ongoing water crisis in Iraq.
Abadi met with Çavuşoğlu at his office in Baghdad and the two discussed bilateral cooperation and ways to solve the outstanding problems through the coordination council between the two countries. They also discussed Iraq’s reconstruction and water crisis.
Abadi stressed during the meeting the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries and other countries in the region, especially in the fight against terrorism.
Çavuşoğlu also met with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed Halbusi, President Barham Salih and other officials on Thursday.
