Iraqi President Barham Salih met Sunday with Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjidi, veteran member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), to discuss complying with U.S. sanctions on Iran.

Press outlets reported that during the meeting Salih said Iraq will become “a point of regional and international agreement.” This will begin with reducing tensions, establishing security, and promoting stability for rebuilding and development.

Salih also criticized the ongoing tensions in the region, “We seek a deep dialogue over sensitive issues in the upcoming stage.”

The ambassador has expressed “full confidence” in Salih to overcome outstanding issues, and that Iran supports the establishment of “an independent and strong Iraq”.
