Iraq's Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi discussed bilateral relations and the latest developments on the Arab arena with Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo Wednesday.
Shoukry congratulated Halbusi on the election of a new Iraqi president and the assignment of a new prime minister, a move that took place in a democratic and transparent process, Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said on Wednesday.
Halbusi praised the brotherly ties binding Egypt and Iraq, expressing his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts in support of Iraq at all levels.
He stressed Iraq’s keenness on fostering bilateral cooperation frameworks with Egypt and benefiting from the Egyptian expertise.
For his part, Shoukry expressed his appreciation for the deeply-rooted and solid relations binding Egypt and Iraq, asserting Cairo’s keenness on pushing forward bilateral relations towards new prospects in various political, economic, trade and cultural domains.
The Egyptian FM asserted Egypt’s support for Iraq’s unity and sovereignty, voicing Cairo’s confidence in the capability of the Iraqi national institutions to overcome all obstacles and form a government representing all segments of the Iraqi people.
Both sides agreed to boost coordination to address challenges facing the region and maintain peace and stability.
